Saturday Sport Over for Another Year.

The kids' sport is over for another year and we've had a big day. This morning was the last cricket game for the year and we were up early to get there by 8:15. Alex came home from sleeping at a mate's house, so red-eyed (because he didn't get to bed until 3am) and tired, I had a hard time convincing him he had to play. When you join a team you have to turn up, no matter how tired you are. He got 9 runs so was pleased with himself and I was happy he chose to play rather than argue about it.

Straight after lunch we headed off to Wagga for the grand finals in the touch competition, and both Carly's and Alex's teams won their games. Once again, Alex's team had a convincing win, cleaning up 15-2, while Carly had a much harder game and they got up 5-2. They got little trophies to add to the already large collections, and vouchers for McDonalds and free movies.

I'm looking forward to not worrying about early starts on Saturday mornings for the next 6 weeks until school starts back. I still have so much to do before Christmas. There's lots of presents I still need to buy and time is running out. I'm working until next Friday, so I have tomorrow, and next weekend, so the plan is to go over to Wagga again tomorrow (hopefully without the kids) and shop until I drop.

I'm sure that next weekend there'll still be last-minute presents to buy, and already the shopping centres are a nightmare, with cues so long at the checkouts it just makes you want to forget the whole thing.

I have a pile of Christmas cards still sitting at home only half done, and will definately need to have them done to post by Monday or there's no point. Last night we had our work Xmas party, and although I had a great night, I felt a little like Alex this morning when I dragged myself out of bed. I'm looking forward to a lay in tomorrow, and the break between Xmas and New Year so I can catch up on some much-needed sleep.

Lauren and Daniel have booked a site at The Great Aussie Resort, and I've booked a campsite next to them so we can spend the time between Xmas and New Year down there. It's a nice spot, with a swimming pool and tennis courts and lots of things to keep the kids occupied. I plan on taking a couple of books, my laptop and a few DVDs, and just relaxing. They've got a live band for New Year's Eve and a theme and it sounds great.

Family Christmas Party

I feel like I've been a very slack "blogger" these past couple of months. Having so many websites is taking it's toll on my time, and I've been on the go constantly. With Xmas around the corner this isn't going to change in a hurry.

Work has been flat out, as usual, and I drag myself home of an evening and still have to do all those homely chores that don't get done by themselves. The kids are not much help around the house. They want to be paid for everything I ask them to do, so I'd rather do it myself.

Tomorrow night we're having a family gathering at home, and Alex is putting up the Christmas tree and a few decorations around the house. I took the day off work so I could do some serious cleaning, and organise some of the food. Mum came around and helped me to decide on the food. There's a total fire ban so a BBQ is out of the question. Bush fires are raging all around us and the temperatures are expected to be in the low 40s so it's going to be extremely hot. We decided on cold meat and salads, with lots of cold beer. Sounds good. Sounded so good I've started with the cold beer already.

We'll have around 20 family members here, and about 8 of them will be sleeping over. It's hard to drink when you have to drive 40k back home, so it seemed like the best solution. No doubt the police will be out and about and drink driving is just not worth it.

The kids still have their sport tomorrow. Alex plays cricket in the morning and Carly is playing touch football in the afternoon, but she has organised a lift to Wagga with another team member. Life goes on. From now on we're pretty busy until Christmas. I still have lots of shopping to do, and have decided to do Christmas lunch for Mum and Reg and my grandmother who is now in a nursing home. It will be nice.
