E-Bay Ripoff

I purchased a pack of 50 blank DVDs for 99c and thought I had a wonderful bargain, postage was $19 but that was okay, a heavy package. For $20 I still had a bargain, until weeks later and I still haven't received the disks. The seller had one negative response when I made my purchase, and I thought there was a dispute between the buyer and seller. Five days later when I looked at the seller's ID again, 6 negative responses, all saying the guy was a rip-off and not to buy from him. Too late to help me though. He's since been unregistered from E-Bay and I'm $20 out of pocket and grateful that it didn't cost me more than that!!

It makes me quite sad to think there's people out there just waiting to prey on honest people. I hope this guy gets the Karma that's coming to him. One of the comments on his page said he'd ripped off hundreds of people. Surely E-Bay check people out when they let them sign up? I could contact the police and other agencies, but for $20? It hardly seems worth the trouble, and yet that attitude is probably what helps these people get away with what they do. I have started the process on E-Bay to complain about my non-arriving purchase and am now waiting on a response from E-Bay. Apparently they will re-imburse a percentage of a bad transaction, but really, it's not the money.

What this experience has taught me is to be wary of sellers who are just starting out. Bad luck for newbies on E-Bay, but unless they have a good seller history I just won't be buying from them. After having a whinge to friends of mine about this, I heard of other E-Bay ripoffs. One was a guy who bought a pair of Oakley sunglasses for $200 on E-Bay only to discover that the Oakley brand was superimposed on the image and the sunglasses probably worth only $5. He tried cancelling the transaction and is still waiting for a response. Good luck and buyers beware!

Bitterly Cold for Kid's Sport

Yesterday both Alex and Carly played touch football in Wagga and it was a bitterly cold day. I had earaches because my ears were frozen. How the kids managed to play in the conditions I'll never know. Alex's team played while the rain poured down. I was wet from the knees down, and ended up under cover. Although the rain eased for Carly's game, it remained freezing, with the wind biting at us.

Football Grand Finalists

My son played in the football grand final today, in the mud and rain. They were down 18-4 at half time and ended up losing 18-16. Huge effort boys, you all played wonderfully. There's always next year, but unfortunately that's not much of a comfort to a team of 10-year-olds. Of the 6 games played today, Junee was in 5 of them. A huge effort for a town that only has a population of 5,000.

Yesterday Alex played in the Junee team that won the Trent Barrett Shield, played at the Eric Weissel Oval in Wagga. That makes them the best school-boy team in the area. I'm a proud mum.

Wireless Networking

I've spent the last hour setting up our four home computers to use wireless networking. I purchased 3 network cards and a wireless access point through E-Bay. Originally I was told I could do it for around $500. That wasn't in the budget, but $150 and a week later, we're all on-line using wireless. Initially I received one network card and the access point, so I set up the main computer and a laptop and after some initial headaches, got it all to work. The problem was viewing the other computer using Window's Network Neighbourhood. I had to install the IPX protocol to get the other computers to show up. The other two home computers only needed the cards and software installed and both worked without any trouble. I'm feeling rather pleased with myself tonight.
